PDO threads

What are PDO threads

PDO threads are FDA-cleared, absorbable sutures placed under the facial skin during a thread lift procedure, to physically lift the interstitial tissue and enhance collagen production.

They work especially well to tighten skin on the neck, lower and midface, and jawline, to restore the face’s youthful V-shape. Thread lifts can also be placed in the corners of the lips to turn out the lip line, and above the eyes to create a subtle brow lift.

The threads are made of a synthetic biodegradable material called PDO (polydioxanone), which are also used in absorbable surgical sutures.

PDO threads consist of hypodermic needles, preloaded with these PDO sutures. The needles are inserted into the skin, parallel to the surface, and leave the thread behind when they’re pulled out.

The PDO sutures dissolve over time, allowing new collagen to grow in their place. Skin is lifted immediately, and overtime skin firmness and elasticity increases in the treated area.

Simetics Cheek lift with PDO monothreads, book now with our experienced nurse.

What are the benefits of mono threads.

  • This facial rejuvenation procedure is relatively quick and easy. Each PDO thread is inserted in less than a minute through small injections performed by our registered nurse.

  • Mono threads provide an immediate result, with the skin being instantly lifted, and improvements in firmness for up to 1-3 years as new collagen develops.

  • Mono PDO threads are dissolvable and therefore pose less risk for injection.

  • If you are looking for alternatives to surgical or laser procedures, mono lifts are a great non-invasive option, and provide immediate results with little to no downtime.

  • Mono Threads provide an improvement of fine lines and wrinkles by gradually stimulating your body's natural healing process and increasing collagen in those areas.

Pre care instructions

  1. Do not drink alcohol for at least 2 days before your procedure – Minimise bruising risk

  2. If you are taking any ‘blood thinning’ medications, please let the practitioner know, as they may represent a contra-indication to the treatment.

  3. Do not take Aspirin, Ibuprofen or any other anti-inflammatory medications for one week prior to, and after your procedure. This includes unscheduled medications such as St John’s Wort, Gingko Biloba, Omega supplements, Vitamin B or Vitamin E and any multivitamins that contain these vitamins or supplements. These will ‘thin the blood’ and cause increased bleeding during the procedure. If you have been prescribed blood thinning agents due to medical reasons please consult with your doctor prior to ceasing.

Post care instructions

  1. Wash your face at night and don’t apply any moisturisers for 12 hours. Please don’t wear any make-up for 24 hours.

  2. After the treatment, you may experience some soreness and pain over the treated areas. Over the counter analgesic medication such as Paracetamol can be taken in case of discomfort. Do not take anti-inflammatory medications such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Voltaren, etc. for the first 7 days.

  3. Mild swelling and bruising can occasionally occur and may be noticeable for a few days.

  4. The treated area may be tender to touch. You might feel the suture underneath the skin as a result of the area being swollen/inflamed. This is normal and will improve over the first week and should be gone after 10 days.

  5. Should you experience severe pain or swelling in the treated area/s, contact us immediately.

  6. Expect 7-14 days for the skin to fully recover its natural aspect. However, you can resume most normal activities the next day.
